the stagecoach bus company has unleashed a volcano in their treatment of their drivers..
the drivers have now upped the ante by asking for the not unreasonable rate of $17 per hour..stagecoach is pleading poverty..(which elicets a universal tui’s beer ad response)..
bus services are back to normal (till after queens birthday weekend), to allow more talks..but industrial action will recommence if stagecoach don’t agree….
and you’d have to say..given base rates and increases over past decade..(drivers have been going backwards/haven’t kept up)..working hours and conditions..that our busdrivers are way overdue for a catch-up..and despite the inconvenience..that we should support this struggle for a fair wage/conditions..
(stagecoach is a multi-national..owned by a scots brother and sister..i don’t think they would give a toss about the working conditions of their drivers in little old auckland, new zealand..hitting them in their pockets could draw their attention…
mind you, they won’t give in easily..they are the walmart of the transport world (minimum wages..keep overheads down..suck up any govt subsidies available..charge as high fares as they can get away with=large profits)..
