i live /work in the heart of auckland, and have a couple of dogs. So, each day we go for walks around the city.
what i’ve noticed is that the pollution in the streets has increased to a marked degree. this is down to the clean air act. since smokers have been forced outside all those cigarette butts that used to disappear into landfills are now ending up on the streets and in the harbour.
frankly, it’s disgusting; and something needs/has to be done about it.
whoar.co.nz here announces the beginning of a campaign to get this sorted out. it would be nice if the mainstream media could join in.
and are smokers bloody stupid? have they learnt nothing from the clean air act? if they don’t get their act together they’ll be looking at a ban on smoking in all public places, as is happening in other parts of the planet. i mean, they’re welcome to their vice/addiction. i just object to involuntary sharing of the residuals.
i see this campaign as being threefold. publicise; grill council/health officials/mp’s; get it sorted.
i think individuals can also make a difference and that large corporations/businesses will be receptive to campaigns of personal contact to winge about the smokers from their organisation polluting the city/harbour, and could they please do something about this.
pointing out what a bad look it is for their entrance ways to look and smell like an ashtray could also be salutary.
i don’t know if this is a case of synchronicity or what; but readers will know i posted a memo asking the above of the new zealand herald, (see memo to the herald).
the butts and the smokers have now gone.
if it was down to whoar, thanks; and apologies to the smokers (we only asked for an ashtray for you; didn’t expect/want a banning/removal).
