the greens have released the component of their health policy focussing on childhood health/obesity..
they are suggesting a very reasonable 1% levy on those little packages of poison called ‘softdrinks’..
this money would be used in an education program for children and to extend the free fruit in schools program to all schools…
i’ve been banging on for some time now (under health’) about the crap food and drink cowboy manufacturers and retailers flog to us, with absolutely no care/concern for the consequences of consuming these chemical/sugar cocktails that fill most of the shelves of our supermarket chains..
as greens healthspokesperson sue kedgley points out..”poor diet is the biggest cause of preventable death in this country..”
one of the biggest pushers of this crap is, of course, coca-cola..and a pr trout from that company has had a whinge about this 1% tax being ..’unfair on the consumer”…(dosen’t that take your breath away..?.)
labours’ annette king asks why not the 1% tax on lollies as well..and i can only wholeheartedly agree….
act do themselves no favours by slagging this policy and saying a sedentary lifestyle is the main cause of childhood obesity……(bullshit!..part of it, yes…but..?..c’mon..)
