there are many policies of nz first i find distastefull..but not this one…
nz first want to extend the free health care for under six’s to all primary school children..
peters’ best work ever was when he screwed that free healthcare for nippers out of bolger and the nats as a condition of coalition in 1996..
wouldn’t it make sense for labour to match, (or possibly even better), what peters is calling for..?
like the eminintly sensible and long overdue interest rate abolition for student loans..a promise to extend free health care through/to secondary school would be a giant step towards the new zealand we all want..
btw..and as for the right bleating that there will be an increase in the uptake of student loans..isn’t that what we want..?…how can we hope to claw our way back, and into the future, if we don’t have a much better educated populace..?..
so, we want more people to extend their education..
i heard an interview on nat rad on irelands’ economic miracle…..there, a well educated people were a foundation stone of that economic revival..
and aren’t those bullshit scare stories from the right about people abusing the system by having big spend-ups, or investing it, a crock…?
that was how it was in the 90’s (under national)..labour has tightened the criterea for accessing loan monies..and fees are paid direct to institutions..and the rest is doled out weekly..
btw2..i am looking forward to the release of labours’ policy on aprenticeships..later today..
i am hoping it will be a bold stroke that will open those doors for those who would prefer a practical vocation..(once again, education..education..education…)
