mikey havoc is going to be doing drive on bfm..starting tomorrow…
this is good for two reasons..i’ve long thought bfms’ practice of having a different drive host every day, (with wildly variable results), was flawed..
if only for reasons of building audience identification/loyalty/certainties…
also, havoc will be perfect for the slot…and should blow the tight pants off the opposition..
a good stiff dose of havo will be perfect for those after-work/traffic jam blues..
(havoc has gone full circle here..he was drive host at b years ago..)
also, as his starting time is 4pm he should be able to get out of bed by then and be on time for his show!
(havoc has broken many a programme director with his refusal to end his chronic lateness..
with only being 20 minutes late for his show being a good day..we might get our moneys worth now, eh?..:)….
this article/interview also touchs on/features the sad split, (our loss), of this generations’ topp twins..
havo and newsboy had the potential to last as long as the topps, but according to havo, newsboy slipped a shiv into him…
and as for the deserved kudos newsboy is receiving now for media lunch,(which in many ways is like their best work together on the anarchic and compelling live show they did on mtv..and in which news continues the persona he developed on b),
and the approbium heaped on havoc for what was undoubtbly a ‘troubled’ solo series; (with the live final definitly in the short list for worst train wreck ever); critics should remember these shows are only the sum of their parts, and kudos and brickbats need to be handed out to not only the frontpeople..
and just touching on those early mtv shows again..
these demonstrate where havoc betters most others..the unscripted/impromptu adlib..havoc is the master..this is why he delights in taking calls live to air on radio..
(i worked with him for a couple of years at bfm and saw him mentally dancing all over the radiowaves..every day..)
so, why hasn’t he been given a late night tv slot to play with..
and not just on his own..with a strong support staff researching/supporting his efforts..
i think havoc is the only one on view in this country who has the moxie and skills to pull off a ripper late night chat/music/anarchy/humour show.. (10pm-11pm would be perfect…eh?)..
(i mean, havoc could out-rove rove, easily..)
i lived in the states for awhile, and havoc is in many ways like an early letterman..letterman used to be far more edgy than the mellowed/lazy host you see now sleepwalking through his hosting duties…and you only occaisonally catch glimpses of what made him great..but it is in those glimpses you see the same skill set havoc has on view..
