here is rightwinger thomas friedman and the irish deputy prime minister on how they did it..
not that long ago, ireland was the basket case of europe…
it is now a roaring tiger..(yes, yes, i know they had/have some essential help from eu subsidies..)
it is a seductively attractive formula…
corporate tax slashed to 12.5%..(i can see how that could make them come..)
wages and prices fixed..(that’d be better than the fixed wages, increasing prices/costs we’ve seen for some while, eh?..talk about lag..)
actively court foreign high-end, high-tech industries..(surely our distance from global trouble spots and a stable, well-educated society are now a major plus..)
free education for all, at all levels..(this one to me is so bleeding obvious as a key factor in raising the tide level for all..and in attacking ethnic and social(poverty) concerns at source..that a labour government can’t/won’t see this, and make it happen, makes me wonder where tf they are coming from…)
those who would label my burblings as left, would possibly be surprised at my endorsing of a formula from friedman..(involving tax cuts and all)
but i tie the above to the green philosophy of moving taxation away from the individual and corporate, and to environmental taxes..(as part of a carrot and stick/true user-pays, approach to getting this mess cleaned up…)
so with these concerns/issues addressed the above formula makes perfect sense..
and as noted , is seductive in its’ simplicity..
