the south auckland senior seargant charged with assaulting a 17 yr old on a petrol station forecourt has been found guilty.
but the main thread of this story is the lifting of the lid on a police culture of abuse.
photographic evidence of a 15 yr old boy forced to wear a sign around his kneck saying he was the property of the senior seargent, (his ‘bitch’), was cited by the judge in the trial as depicting a culture that was sick.
here’s a quote from the judge, (as reported in the herald).
“the practices may be reasonably widespread, especially in the south auckland area. in my view, the culture is as sick as the joke.”
manukau counties police refused to respond to the judges comments as the matter is still before the court.
but we haven’t heard the last of this one.
and tying in with this story, is the report of the top cop in manukau calling on his officers to dob in the traitors amongst them, those who talk to the media about problems in the police force.
he says these traitors do it for money, sex, or a free lunch. (cor!)
