children just want you to be there..
the former childrens’ commissioner ian hassal criticises both labour and national for their fixation on getting mothers/fathers back into the workforce as soon as possible after the birth of their children..
with, of course, the dawn to dusk daycare model favoured by both parties..
of course, a key component/salve(?) in this model is the idea that an hour or so of ‘quality time’ (wtf is that?) will compensate for the all day incarceration at the baby holding pen..
(insert tuis’ rejoinder)..
plus there is the strongly implied denigration and economic punishment of those who for reasons of involuntary personal circumstances, or choice, look askance at this model, and choose to spend those few years focussing on their children..
and as a student of irony i can’t help but note that many of those on the right who would have sole parents etc sleeping in gutters..are (quite rightly) horrified at the 18,000+ children who are aborted each year..
i wonder if they ever pause in their frothing to join the fucken dots…
that many of those childrens’ lives are aborted because their mothers cannot face the life of economic and social denigration/degradation, (bludger?), they have seen their friends/relatives forced into..
