the nipper is a big fan of the john campbell; he’s met him a couple of times, and has watched him a fair bit on the telly. (he thinks he’s funny)
but his faith in the campbell has been shaken of late; the news the simpsons were no longer going to be there to nurture/entertain him on a multiple of levels at 7pm each night, caused the blood to drain from his face;
and that johns’ new news show was taking it’s place, caused his brow to furrow and head to slowly shake from side to side.
our attachments to the simpsons stretchs back into his earliest memories (a decade). for him they have always been there; and along with many others, for some time this has been his and mine ritual at 7pm most nights.
if i am out of the room when the theme music starts, he will rush to get me. (this, and the watching/laughing/enjoying together, of course, delights me, (and him), in more ways than i can count).
he dosen’t sit on my knee any more to watch, (he’s too bloody heavy and tall).
(won’t kiss me on the cheek outside school anymore, or in any other public place either, (sigh). it’s just not cool, doncha know.)
he’s been carrying this burden of the impending end of the simpsons ritual for a few weeks now, but i will have some good news for him this afternoon when he gets home from school.
sky 1 is going to be picking up the slack and will be screening the yellow family and friends at 7pm.
when are we getting tivo?
