over 15 years of reading nearly every issue(till lately) i reckon finlay macdonald was the best of the editors; but the magazine has now become like a slightly more upmarket womens weekly..i can’t be bothered any more..i followed the new editor for awhile with a growing sense of dismay..then i just gave up..which was not an easy thing to do..i was driven away by the lack of content..
it’s a real drag, because the same thing has happened with bfm…i’ve listened to them for the same period of time..been a passionate supporter..but the breakfast show now has gone the way of the listener and i just can’t hack it..
and it’s nothing so shallow like i don’t like her voice; it’s the content, or lack of it..and i get the feeling she’s lazy about preparation, which is fine if you have the skill base to wing it(see havoc), fatal if you haven’t..
the news is still crap too..first paragraphs out of herald stories which are in the main yesterdays stories..and they sound crap because writing for radio is way different from writing for print..(the obvious glaring faux pax is saying the quoted persons name/title after the quote..fine in print, must be the other way around for radio…)
havoc still works though, and the odd wire show has the odd good piece…but some of the wire hosts are dire..and alot of the music is still good..but all in all, sigh..
