helen clark has just appeared on breakfast television and done a resounding rebuttal of nationals’ promises of tax cuts for all..
clark points out that brash/key would have to borrow to fund nationals’ election promises..and provides several telling examples of her model of tax and provide social services as being the model to adhere to..(increases in afterschool care/subsidies being a particularly potent one)..
seeing clark in action reminded me just how much she stomps all over brash in parliament..ditto with cullen on key..(i live-blog questiontime and have described cullen dispatching key with an air of lazy insouciance..)
given this, and the emotive traction from brashs’ calls/budget disappointment/anti-climax dissapating, and the mauling both brash and key will undoubtedly receive in the televised debates, leads me to conclude national should not get too much of a rush of blood to the head; just because people are paying attention to them for a mo’.
though it’s understandable national should be getting a bit excited……….most have been studiously ignoring them for quite awhile now..
but a glance does not a winning campaign make…
and in what can only be a tactical error of duh! proportions..the breakfast host informed us dr brash was invited onto the programme to
expand/debate on his ideas on taxation and the budget/economy in general, but brash declined, because he was too busy..
i wonder just what it was he was so busy with that he couldn’t front on nationwide tv..weeks out from an election…(and in the process likely getting a soundbite that would resonate through the days news)….
maybe it was something important/a crisis(?); maybe to do with unironed jim-jams and the urgent washing of ‘smalls’…..
