this case is showing just how farcical the name supression laws in new zealand since the advent of the internet..
i mean, i know all/most of, the names…so do lots of others..
and tv3 did a clip last night where they filmed punters taking a stab in the dark into who they are..and bleeped out any names mentioned..
but you didn’t need to know diddly-squat about lip-reading to make most of them out..and tv3 in their wisdom (following legal advice, i presume?), left in the quote where a punter said one of the sports/telly stars had the same initials as a major disease..!..duh!..figure that one out..tv3 also noted with a totally straight(i presume?), face that this same individuals business had seen a 20% drop in share value over the day..
now has tv3 breached the supression laws by doing this..?..am i breaching supression laws by reporting the broad hints dropped by tv3 in their bulletins..?..it’s all getting a tad silly..eh.?
i reckon, give it a week…and everyone with the slightest interest will know..which brings me back to the original point..name supression laws don’t work any more..unless we don’t give a toss who they are…
