well…the boy and i watched it….
and to be honest..their savagings of others has been far more virulent than this one…and as i noted yesterday..you should have seen what they said about/did to hippies last week..it was brutal..!
and the bottom line (excuse the pun)..is that this episode was a bloody funny (and well justified) piss-take on the cult of alcoholics anonymous…and their “i am but a sick/ill person who must hand control of my life over to others..’..”..(a.a. and a ‘higher power’…)..cos i have no discipline/selfcontrol…”
through the dialogue between stan and his dad…we get the message of self-discipline and self-control and ‘moderation’ being the other..arguably more honest ..way of addressing the blight of alcohol abuse/over-consumption…
(rather than falling back on the (false?) props provided by alcoholics anonymous)..
and the bleeding statue was just an “aside”..not the main plot ..and only there because stans’ dad is falsely ‘cured’ of his alcohol ‘illness’ after dragging his ‘ill’ self to the source of this ‘miracle’..
..(once again..a telling barb aimed at the target of this episode..which is alcoholics anonymous..not the catholic church..)
… (the bleeding statue was just part of the telling anti-a.a. analogies used (successfully imho) by the programme makers..)
so…if anyone should have been protesting outside tv3 last nite..it should have been the followers/devotees of the alcoholics’ anonymous cult…not aggrieved catholics…..
and as a final observation/question…just what is so wrong/distasteful/unclean about menstrual blood…?..(arguably one of the foundation stones of life..?..like..y’know..from god..!..)
if this statue had been shown to be bleeding from any other ‘distasteful’ part of the body…(say..the armpit..or between the toes) we wouldn’t have heard ‘boo’…
but because this is shown to be menstrual blood…everyone is up in arms…?..why is this..?
this whole brouhaha is more about our hang-ups with the mysteries of menstruation than anything put together by the makers of south park…….
