ed: one of the most interesting commentaries on those teenagers trying to kick in that service station door in kaikohe (b.t.w the manufacturers of that door should use the footage as an ad or their product) came from the far north district mayor – john carter.
carter is/was a longterm tory mp before becoming mayor..
and his observation was that the plight of kaikohe (and of course by implication all those other centres of poverty/desperation in nz) find themselves in ‘is a direct result of the government policies of the last 40 years’ and that he/carter must also shoulder some of that blame (seeing as he voted for/pimped those neoliberal policies that have caused this desperation/deprivation..
and that nothing will change/it will only get worse until central government acts to undo/repair the miseries/deprivation they have created/engineered..
(and of corse it must be noted that the labour party/labour governments of the last 40 years in no way get off the hook..
they stand in the dock alongside the national party/tories – forced to claim their equal share of the blame/indictments….
and what carter highlights is that new zealand needs a ‘new deal’..
one designed to put right what the tories and the labour party got so so wrong – for those last forty years..
and funnily enough the only party doing more that paying lip-service to that goal is gareth morgans; ‘opportunity party’ – with his/their policy of a universal basic income – and of course higher taxes on the richest (like himself..)
but in the meantime – much respect to former tory mp john carter – for calling it as it is..eh..?
and of course on the other side of that ‘respect’ coin are the clowns on that tv3 breakfast show – duncan ‘brainstrust’ garner – mark ‘moon-landing-denier’ richardson and the always guaranteed overly-unctuous newsreader (whose name has slipped my mind) who were all for bringing back the biff/corporal punishment/advocating letting the police ‘kick them up the arse’…
complete fools..!…all of them…!
