(ed: things kick-off with speaker mallard reading a thank-you note from our (vegan) governor-general..)
brownlee then moans about the video-briefing from mallard posted before q-time…..tries a weak attempt at a joke – fails…
Questions to Ministers
Rt Hon BILL ENGLISH to the Prime Minister: Does she stand by her Government’s policy to “create more jobs”; if so, can she confirm that over 245,000 jobs have been created in the last 2 years?
ardern turns englishes’ term in office back on him – by quoting unemployment growth under the past government..(englishes role as opposition leader could be described as serial-sneering at new gummints’ plans/policies/promises..dunno how long he will be able to keep that one going..and going on the record of the last government..they have little to be sneering about..)
WILLOW-JEAN PRIME to the Minister of Finance: What recent announcements has he made regarding the Reserve Bank?
joyce steps up for the sneering role – (fact: pictures of joyce as a baby show/prove he was actually born sneering..)
Hon PAULA BENNETT to the Minister of Transport: Which statement does he agree with: his statement in the House last week that “no existing and funded roading project other than the East-West Link has been altered by the Government”, or the Minister of Finance’s reported comments, in relation to roading priorities, that “there are other priorities around New Zealand as well, in terms of investing in rail and getting coastal shipping going, improving our regional roads”?
bennett brings on the/her tight-lipped sneering (to not much avail)..twyford slams the previous governments’ record of uncosted major projects..twyford then puts the boot in by listing the broken project-promises from the previous gummint…(new bridges in northland..?..mmm..??)
(the opposition are on a road to nowhere – whatever they criticise is something they were demonstrably worse at..)
Hon STEVEN JOYCE to the Minister of Finance: What was the marginal personal income tax rate paid by someone on the full-time median wage on 1 April 2011, and how does this compare to the expected marginal rate paid by someone on the full-time median wage on 1 April 2018 under his tax package?
robertson slams the mess left by the previous gummint (robertson has excelled since the election in both the clarity of his answers to journos’ question.and in his effectiveness as a an attack-dog on the opposition….and here he delivers on the latter..)
JAMIE STRANGE to the Minister of Education: Does he consider it acceptable that young New Zealanders’ literacy levels have fallen significantly, as measured by the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study; if not, how does the Government propose to turn this around?
‘chippy’ hipkins celebrates the scrapping of national standards..how teachers will be freed from the mountains of paperwork/time..and that parents will still receive school reports..
Hon Dr JONATHAN COLEMAN to the Minister of Health: What measurable outcomes, if any, will his policies deliver?
coleman says that the lancet magazine has called jacinda ardern ‘a marxist’…(heh..!..)
Hon NIKKI KAYE to the Minister of Education: Will he scrap all public-private partnership arrangements involving school infrastructure; if so, what is the potential cost of doing this?
chippy hipkins and winston peters do a tag-team on the tories…and the unfunded promises they have made..(epic-fail by kaye – btw..)..and chippy also says no schools set up under the tories will be closed….(?)
CHLÖE SWARBRICK to the Associate Minister of Health: What restrictions on surgical mesh has the Government made, in order to protect women’s health?
genter announces what the previous government failed to do – despite being warned in 2015..after an inquiry that year..
coleman has his own epic-fail by trying to run the lancet-ardern-marxist line – again..speaker mallard laughs him out of the room..
SIMON O’CONNOR to the Minister of Corrections: Does he stand by all his statements in relation to prison population growth?
kelvin davis proves just how clumsy he is on his feet…is drowning not waving..
Hon PAUL GOLDSMITH to the Minister of Employment: Does he stand by his statement in the Manukau Courier, “for 9 years we’ve had Government policy which has offered up little more than lip service to job creation”; if so, can he confirm that in the past 2 years an average of more than 10,000 jobs a month have been created in this country?
willie jackson shows how clumsy he is in this environment..and can’t/dosen’t answer questions..and launches into a tirade against the tories – accusing them of racism..which of course they are…but i see jackson as playing that card to attempt to fudge the question – he fails…and he just comes across as a bully-boy..he clearly needs to sharpen up his act..
KIRITAPU ALLAN to the Minister of Agriculture: What is he doing to protect and enhance New Zealand’s trade reputation for agricultural exports?
CHRIS BISHOP to the Minister of Police: Which of the following statements by Jacinda Ardern does he agree with, “… we already budgeted for an extra 1,000 police so that is just an additional $40 million required”; or “the additional police that’s probably one of the larger figures that’s about an extra $80 million in order to fulfil that one”?
stuart nash fails to answer questions – also looks clumsy/evasive..(when he didn’t even need to..)
summary:..a q-time in which not much really happened…the tories continued their practice of sneering (and then having the sneers thrown back in their faces – by their own record in office..)
dunno how long they can keep that up..eh..?
robertson gets performer-of-the-day (and i wd note that he has consistently impressed since the election..impressing with the directness/clarity of his answers to any questions..and scathing in the accuracy of his putdowns of the tories..)
the personal fails were mainly from the gummint – with kelvin davis and willie jackson sharing the doh!-award for the day – and with nash a close runner-up..(all three clearly needing some serious training over the xmas-break..methinks..)
genter gets a rightous-anger award – slamming the tories for failing to act (in 2015!) on warnings from their own experts on surgical-mesh/dangers to women…
for the tories – coleman getting laughed out of the room by the speaker was fun – but on the other side of the ledger he also gets quote-of-the-day for his citing from the medical-rag the lancet – claiming ardern will introduce ‘marxist-policies’ in health..(heh..!..)
and the tories as a whole get the talking-heads-award for their road-to-nowhere approach to their role in opposition…
and of course the stunning/w.t.f!-fact from the day is how (reportedly) baby photos of joyce show that he was born sneering..(it’s genetic – who knew..?..)
and that was questiontime..
