op-ed: andrew little – the case for – the case against – the corbyn-experience..(update:little has resigned..)

op-ed: andrew little – the case for – the case against – the corbyn-experience..(update:little has resigned..)

ed:…the only case i can make for little staying is by/from remembering the corbyn-experience..

there you had a labour leader roundly condemned/damned by all and sundry – and with the media chorusing along as one – with predictions of an election-outcome that would destroy the labour party..

but then the releasing of powerful/meaningful policy saw labour/corbyn have their best day at the ballot-box ever..so..

and here you have little condemned by all and sundry – and labour promising some ‘exciting’-policy between now and the election..

(tho’ a neoliberals’ ‘exciting’ is a democratic socialists’ mild-frisson..eh..?…)

so can little/corbyn-comparisons be valid..?

on the surface it would seem so – but not quite..

which brings us to the nub of the little-problem..he is an unreconstructed neoliberal..

and at a time when the people are screaming out for democratic-socialism – yet another neoliberal-incrementalist is the last thing we/labour need..

and this is where the comparisons with corbyn end – ‘cos corbyn is not now/has never been a neoliberal..

corbyn is/has been democratic socialist down to his bootstraps since forever..

and it is the recognition of this realisation that swings it against little…

let him go..let the fresh face of ardern rejuvenate labour in the publics’ eyes..

and then..(most important this) – labour then release some exciting/game-changing democratic-socialist polices – promising a better life/future..

and then it will be game-on..

and anyway – much of the thinking/punditing on this subject is firmly entrenched in first past the post thinking..

this is mmp – and what matters in the end is the numbers-total at the election..little or no little..

and for me the most exciting/interesting recent polling news – was national slipping into loss-territory..

and the progressive-parties reaching 52%..

update: little has now resigned..

interview: andrew little/youth-vote – does he have a bloody clue..?

20/6/2017 By editor Leave a Comment

interview: andrew little/youth-vote – does he have a bloody clue..?

(ed: he seems not to have a bloody clue – if andrew little thinks a labour education policy of some free tertiary education in nine years time is going to appeal to young voters today – who will be in their 30’s and saddled with student debt in nine years time when it kicks in..

he is bloody dreaming..!..

little seems determined to creep to defeat behind his neoliberal-incrementalism/centrism..offering not much at all..

didn’t he get the memo from corbyn..?..)

(excerpt..)

Labour Party leader Andrew Little talks to Morning Report about whether the party is going for the youth vote – after the British Labour Party’s support was buoyed by a surge of young people registering to vote.

(ed:..listen to/watch this – and despair..)

‘facebook ‘dark ads’ (+ op-ed:..what gareth morgan should do..and a warning of impending-peril for the labour party/andrew little..)

20/5/2017 By editor Leave a Comment

‘facebook ‘dark ads’ (+ op-ed:..what gareth morgan should do..and a warning of impending-peril for the labour party/andrew little..)

(ed:..and one would hope the greens (and labour) use this tool to send tailored messages extolling the commonsense/value to be had from strategic-voting – of not cannibalising each other…

(and using it to get rid of peter dunne (especially – and the rest of these do-nothing of any value tories..)

and also on that wouldn’t-it-be-nice/sensible?-list is: wouldn’t it be nice/sensible if little/labour grew a spine on/around the cannabis-prohibition issue..?

a poll on the a.m. breakfast show on tv3 on friday ran a viewers/listeners’-poll..

and 83% of those respondents to that poll favoured full-legalisation of cannabis..

are you listening labour..?..do i have to shout louder..?

83% support for full-legalisation of cannabis…is that fact/reality sinking in yet..?..(it even surprised me – such high support for full-legalisation)..doesn’t it surprise you..?..it bloody well should..

compare that to your pathetic-promise to ‘again look’/’more evidence needed’ at medical-marijuana – at some un/ill-defined time in the future..?..(in yr second-term..?..d’yareckon..?..)

if you think that will be enough i really have to ask you: ‘what the fuck are you smoking?’

given i can’t see you coming up with any game-changer policies..(i have growing dismay that you will just do a tory-lite/’we aren’t as bad as them!’) – with your manifesto..

(btw..are you paying attention to what is happening with corbyn/labour – who have presented a manifesto/agenda so game-changing it would give many/most of new zealand labour ‘the shits’/palpitations…eh..?

and/but corbyn/labour are climbing in the polls and the latest (usually anti-labour ) poll has him at one percentage point behind what tony blair won with in 2005..

and a rightwing tabloid-rag (the daily ‘something’) ran a readers-poll on labours’ re-nationalisation of key industries/raising minimum-wage/soaking the rich/elites with higher taxes (but only for the very rich – the middle-class are untouched..)

the rightwing-tabloid-rag was expecting their rightwing-readers to seriously dump on it – the result there was that 80% of the readers of that rightwing/reactionary-tabloid-rag voted  in support of corbyns’/labour-manifesto..(surpising – enervating even..eh..?..)

are you listening/paying attention new zealand labour party..?..andrew little..?

the people want change – real emphatic change that will fix/address (at least some of) the issues like poverty/environmental-degradation etc. etc. that so blight us..

not just more of the do-nothing liberal-incrementalist bullshit..eh..that you have been serving up for so long..eh..?

we are all really over that..eh..?..and you don’t realise that to your election-peril..really..eh..?

but back at the cannabis-issue – should you ignore the clear-imperatives lying all around you..you will be able to put your feet up and watch your voters who want change – and see a possibility from gareth morgan brokering on this issue from the middle of the left/right paradigm..you will watch those voters seeping away..

‘what we did before’ – will not work this time around..eh..?

and while you are shopping around for a spine on the cannabis-issue you should see if you can get a package-deal – and get them to throw in one for grant robertson..on this issue..eh..?..

and should the tories/stephen joyce have a (surprise!)  tax-free-band promise in their upcoming budget (which if you think about it – makes perfect sense..it would raise everyones’ boat/so would have nobody left out/complaining – would keep their repeated promises to pay some attention to those doing it the hardest/the working poor – this would do it..and would also remove the institutional-madness of giving a measly as it is unemployment-benefit – and then taxing it..neoliberal-stupidity! that one..

– and it also is a tidy ideological-fit – as in simplifying the tax-system/cutting taxes/not having to swallow the deat-rat of raising benefits..

if not that..what..?..how else will joyce/english/the tories keep that long-repeated suite of promise..?

and if they do this (what will be a serious election-bribe) they will leave you/labour wallowing in their wake..

‘cos to date you seem to be offering/promising sweet fuck all..eh..?

really past time to find/grow that policy-spine..eh..?)

(excerpt..)

On the surface British general elections are quaint affairs: from opening your front door to a group of people wanting to speak to you about politics while your dinner burns in the oven – to leaflets through your letterbox that go straight into the recycling bin – not much seems to have changed since the 1860s.

That appearance however could not be further from the truth.

Political campaigning has undergone a sea change – a change that most of us haven’t noticed.

That’s not because we’re oblivious or ignorant but rather because these new forms of electioneering are invisible to all but the very specific people they are designed to reach.

Social media – in particular Facebook – has become the battleground upon which elections are won and lost and social media knows how to target you – only you.

Personal information – from your age – location to whether you own a home and what music you like – held by Facebook allows political parties to target specific voters with tailored messages when they purchase advertising space from the social media platform.

far-right rag runs poll on corbyns’ manifesto/policy – records record support..(+ op-ed: a heads-up! for andrew little/the new zealand labour party..)

far-right rag runs poll on corbyns’ manifesto/policy – records record support..(+ op-ed: a heads-up! for andrew little/the new zealand labour party..)

(ed: are you paying attention..?..andrew little/new zealand labour party..?..)

(excerpt..)

Poll has Britons in full-throated approval of Corbynism (if not Corbyn).

Ever since he became leader of the UK Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn has faced bitter attacks from the “left-wing” establishment – the press and his own party – despite his repeated unprecedented landslide victories in party leadership races.

As Labour infighting (combined with missteps and systematic bias in the press – for example the dramatic underreporting of Corbyn’s anti-Brexit campaign) have made Corbyn into something between a running joke and a whipping boy in UK politics – the actual party manifesto for the upcoming election was leaked — possibly as sabotage by party establishment insiders.

After the leak the hard-right Daily Mirror commissioned a poll to find out just how much everyone hated Corbyn’s manifesto – only to discover that there is broad deep support for Corbyn’s platform – from renationalising the railways to banning ‘zero-hours’ contracts and raising the minimum wage – while taxing the rich and building subsidised council housing for working people — what’s more Corbyn’s platform is far more popular than Tory leader Theresa May’s – which is full of gifts to the super-rich like reintroducing fox-hunting and raising the retirement age.

andrew little gets asked 12 pretty superficial/inane questions..(+ op-ed..)

9/5/2017 By editor Leave a Comment

(ed:..i would have liked some follow-up questions on this subject – just why is he still a cannabis-prohibitionist..?..

how much more bloody evidence of the multifaceted failures of prohibition does he need..?..)

(excerpt..)

I just finished reading Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari.

It makes a compelling case for drug law reform which has really given me something to think about although I still have issues with decriminalisation..
