(ed: given this ‘brighter future’ has seen (as just one example) new zealand go from a largely egalitarian society – providing education for the young – and easy entry into home-ownership..and a life to live/look forward to..
to a society where our young face a future saddled with/by student debt..and unaffordable houses..houses owned/control by my boomer generation..
a generation who tends to scream like stuck pigs at any suggestion they contribute to ending poverty in new zealand..through higher taxes/capital gains taxes…
and the citizens of new zealand face a life living in a low-wage/high cost of living/unaffordable housing (either owning or renting)/rundown infrastructure/under-funded healthcare etc. etc. country..
a country with world-beating rates of child-poverty/homelessness/number one in youth-suicide..the sorry/sad list goes on and on…..
not much of a life to live/look forward to..for so many..
and perhaps the most significant for the young/longterm..is how our political leaders are only paying lip-service to the inevitable climate-change outcomes bearing down on us..
they are ignoring the inevitable future..and doing nothing/as little as possible in response to those environmental-imperatives..
so that ‘brighter future’ the tories/national promised us..?..yeah..nah..eh..?
not if they have anything to do with it..
..tho’ some have done well..boomer home-owners have become millionaires by/through happenstance….the elites/mp’s own more/more valuable properties…
with the price being paid by those locked out of home-ownership..and living in a country of predatory landlords/ever-escalating rents – and no renters-rights..fucked every which way they turn..
..time to ‘drain the swamp’…as someone once said..(who was that..?)
time to sweep these bastards into ‘the dustbin of history’..
and time to elect politicians who will work to end poverty/all that blights us after thirty plus years of neoliberalism from both the tories and the labour party..
life is meant to be ‘brighter’ than this..
National promised a ‘Brighter Future’ back in 2008 when it took power –
– so has it shaped our lives for better or worse?
