Cummings sees a ‘crisis of legitimacy’ coming down the pike.
‘You’ve got to understand that members of Congress have a lot of information that the public does not have’ Cummings told CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
‘And I can tell you over the last week or two the classified briefings that I have been to – and if the public knew what members of Congress know….’
‘Why don’t they?’ Cuomo cut in ‘If it’s that important that it’s going to make people not go to the inauguration…shouldn’t people know?’
Cummings explained that information regarding Russian hacking and FBI Director James Comey’s influential role in the election would be released to the public following the congressional investigation.
The Maryland Democrat was also concerned with Trump’s worldwide conflicts of interest and both parties’ failure to pressure the president-elect to divest completely.
‘The information will come out later – at some point where I think the public will fully understand’ Cummings said.
