‘1968 book predicts life in the year 2018’..

‘1968 book predicts life in the year 2018’..

(ed: one of the following ‘experts’ – in 1968 – predicted what we are now facing from climate-change – how we will have fucked the planet/atmosphere – and in just fifty years..

stupid stupid humans..)

(excerpt..)

In 1968 the Foreign Policy Association gathered experts together to predict what life would be like in the year 2018 — and issued their forecast in the book Toward the Year 2018.

The book jacket promised that the contents were ‘MORE AMAZING THAN SCIENCE FICTION’ and, like a lot of sci fi it wound up frequently missing the mark.

The 1968 progrosticators figured that we people of the future would have TV ads for anti-gravity belts – the ‘suppression of lightning’ – a country powered heavily by nuclear and the ability to launch ‘a man-made hurricane’ as an offensive weapon.

‘david attenborough offers stark warning against climate change and pollution’..(+ op-ed..)

‘david attenborough offers stark warning against climate change and pollution’..(+ op-ed..)

(ed: of course the most effective move an individual can make to become part of the solution – and not part of the problem – is to stop their personal contribution  to climate change by/through eating animal-flesh/bye-products..and to go vegan..

and it/that ain’t too difficult to do…eh..?..)

(excerpt..)

During the last episode of the series David Attenborough issues a warning to viewers – detailing how overfishing – plastic pollution and climate change are all damaging ocean habitats.

‘For years we thought the oceans were so vast and the inhabitants so infinitely numerous that nothing we could do could have an effect upon them.

But now we know that was wrong’ Attenborough says.

‘It is now clear our actions are having a significant impact on the world’s oceans.

[They] are under threat now as never before in human history.

Many people believe the oceans have reached a crisis point.

‘Surely we have a responsibility to care for our blue planet.

The future of humanity and indeed all life on Earth – now depends on us’.

‘climate change is destroying world wonders’..

14/11/2017 By editor Leave a Comment

Mount Kilimanjaro - a natural wonder at risk from climate change as its glaciers shrink.

(excerpt..)

From the Everglades in the US to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia – climate change is destroying the many of the greatest wonders of the natural world.

A new report on Monday from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reveals that the number of natural world heritage sites being damaged and at risk from global warming has almost doubled to 62 in the past three years.

Those at high risk include iconic places from the Galapagos Islands to the central Amazon and less well known but equally vibrant and unique sites such as the karst caves of Hungary and Slovakia and the monarch butterfly reserves in Mexico.

‘climate change might be worse than thought’..

‘climate change might be worse than thought’..

(excerpt..)

Global warming might be far worse than we thought – according to a new study.

The research challenges the ways that researchers have worked out sea temperatures until now – meaning that they may be increasing quicker than previously suggested.

The methodology widely used to understand sea temperatures in the scientific community may be based on a mistake the new study suggests and so our understanding of climate change might be fundamentally flawed.

The new research suggests that the oceans hundreds of millions of years ago were much cooler than we thought.

If true that means that the global warming we are currently undergoing is unparallelled within the last 100 million years and far worse than we had previously calculated.

did climate change bring down ancient egypt..?

did climate change bring down ancient egypt..?
pyramids-giza.jpg

(excerpt..)

Ancient Egypt may have fallen in part because of riots caused by climate change and volcanoes – according to a new paper.

The new study paints a picture of the ancient civilisation riven by droughts and disasters.

It looked at the impact of the severe events of ancient Egypt –  finding that they caused stress on its economy and ability to fight wars.

the research threatens to completely upend our understanding of the effects of climate change on early societies – according to the researchers behind it.

Around 70 per cent of the world currently lives in regions that similarly rely on monsoons for their crops – and could fall victim to the same troubles.
