NZ drivers are ruthless to cyclists – The Hobbit actor Mark Hadlow says.
Kiwi drivers are ‘the worst in the world’ and the roads too dangerous for cyclists – The Hobbit star Mark Hadlow says.
The New Zealand actor pedals a stationary bike each night as part of his cycling-themed show MAMIL – which is on at Christchurch’s Court Theatre – but he does not cycle on roads during the play’s run.
‘I have stopped riding when I do the show simply because it is too dangerous. Car drivers are the worst in the world in New Zealand. They are so determined and arrogant and will not give way’ he said.

Mark Hadlow as Dori – in The Hobbit trilogy.
‘They are really quite ruthless I think – especially the middle-aged ones who are like: ‘This is my f…… road and I will do what I like on my f…… road’. I can’t take the risk when I am doing the show of being bowled off my bike’.
