(op-ed:..) suggestion: i mean – good on him for speaking up/out – tho’ he could lead/show by example – divesting papal-monies from all the industries that are causing the fucken mess in the first place – (‘cos decrying-of and profiting-from at the same time do make such uneasy bedfellows..eh..?)
that and wholesale ‘greening’ of all church activities/sermons on the need for change/papal-decrees to followers – would give his words an added/much-needed ring of authenticity..eh..?..
hell..!..he could even go wild and crazy and stop also contributing to one third of our ‘problem’ (if you can so diminish the inexcusable/undeniable fact that continuing on the current path – thus guaranteeing the end of humanity – as/by calling it a ‘problem’…a fungal-nail infection is a ‘problem’ – a leaking roof is a problem..this is all kinda more so than that..eh..?) –
so my other suggestion for the pope – to demonstrate sincerity – is that he could stop supporting/eating the end-products from the animal-farming charnel-houses..and most importantly he should start instructing his followers/issuing papal-decrees on such matters..eh..?
and the pope not doing any of that/the above leaves his words as just so much more – albeit papal – hot-air..eh..?..
..and the pope/the catholic church (and all the other brands) need to become leaders in this new reformation..
..time is fast running out..)
Pope Francis slams some members of the Catholic church – saying it’d be better if they were atheists.
Pope Francis delivered another criticism of some members of his own flock – suggesting it is better to be an atheist than one of ‘many’ Catholics who he said lead a hypocritical double life.
In improvised comments in the sermon of his private morning mass in his residence on Thursday (Friday NZT) he said: ‘It is a scandal to say one thing and do another.
That is a double life’.
Pope Francis has warned against the rise of populist leaders like Adolf Hitler.
When asked if he worries about the rise of populism in the United States and Europe – he said people should not repeat the same mistakes as in the 1930s – when they turned to ‘saviours’ to resolve economic and political crises only to end up at war.
‘Crises provoke fear – alarm.
In my opinion the most obvious example of European populism is Germany in 1933’ the Pope said.
‘A people that was immersed in a crisis – that looked for its identity until this charismatic leader came and promised to give their identity back and he gave them a distorted identity and we all know what happened’.
Pontiff says humans are turning planet into ‘wasteland full of debris, desolation and filth’ – in call for urgent action on climate change.
Pope Francis has called for urgent action to stop climate change and proposed that caring for the environment be added to traditional Christian works of mercy such as feeding the hungry and visiting the sick.
In a message to mark the Catholic church’s World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation that he launched last year Francis said the worst impact of global warming was being felt by those who were least responsible for it – refugees and the poor.
Francis described man’s destruction of the environment as a sin and accused mankind of turning the planet into a ‘polluted wasteland full of debris – desolation and filth’.
