(ed:..here is the bullshit/lies bennet is spinning/pushing..)
Tourism minister and Deputy PM Paula Bennett does not support taxing tourists to pay for infrastructure – she says.
Tourism minister and Deputy PM Paula Bennett does not support taxing tourists to pay for infrastructure, she says.
Mrs Bennett said she was talking to local government about the need to fund infrastructure.
But she told TVNZ’s Q+A she did not support taxes that would single out tourists.
‘I’m personally not a big fan … because we’re really expensive to visit’ she said.
(ed: the bullshit is that dropping airfares amongst other factors means that compared to other oecd countries – new zealand is not an expensive country to visit..
and the facts of the matter are that most other countries already have similar tourist taxes to what bennett is opposing..
and $40-$50 on top of those ever-cheapening airfares is most certainly not going to be a breaking-point – stopping potential tourists from coming here..
(and of course any tax should be ring-fenced – and distributed to the provinces and earmarked to fund the needed tourist-support infrastructure..)
and a/my ‘solution’ to the freedom-camping issues is to charge freedom-campers..once again a very reasonable $40-$50 authorising a month of free freedom-camping – (for both tourists and locals..)..a dollar-something a day won’t break any budgets/banks andwon’t deter any visitors.. and would be easy to implement – being able to be purchased online or from any visitors-centre..
and of course once again ring-fenced/earmarked for distribution to the regions for the building of that needed infrastructure..
so..there ya go..!..problem solved..!
and of course just one of the puzzling aspects of bennents’ intransigence is how when push comes to shove – from this issue to cow-shit filled rivers etc. etc. is that that much-touted tory-maxim of ‘user-pays’ turns out to be the same colour/texture/smell as that what is wrecking our once pristine waterways..
just so much more tory-bullshit..)
