It is January and many of you vegetarians and perhaps some meat eaters too will take the leap and try to go vegan – giving up all animal products.
(ed:..i have been a vegan for about 20 years – and vegetarian for 15 years before that – and one thing that constantly surprises me is the often vicious/irrational kickbacks vegans get from long-term vegetarians –
– ranging from ‘i’m not buying that!’ (referring to the very idea of going vegan/rejecting the health implications from eating dairy/bye-products) – are they not ‘buying’ the science behind/backing these claims..?..in a modern iteration of the flat-earth society..?)
..through to reactions they themselves have probably experienced from carnivores kicking back against their decision/choice to go vegetarian.. (heh..!..)
a couple of recent examples of this have been a longterm vegetarian on being proffered a dessert – and being told it is vegan – snarling – ‘i’m not eating a vegan dessert!’ (!)..(um! – why not?’..)
and another longterm vegetarian refusing to eat/try any of the food on offer after finding out it is all vegan – spitting the dummy and storming out exclaiming” ‘that’s not real food!’..(!)..(that one in particular makes me chuckle..)
then of course there are those vegetarians who pat themselves on the back ‘cos they are ‘doing it for the animals’..(!)
that one to me shows a gobsmacking level of denial on their part..
do they really not know that the only way they are getting/able to buy their cheeses etc. is because cows that have a natural life-span of over twenty years – are serially impregnated/made pregnant over five years – before they are deemed to be ‘past their peak’ – and are then sent to the slaughterhouse..?
do they not know that the calves born from those serial-pregnancies are then separated from their mothers and are in their turn also sent to the slaughterhouse..?..
that these horrors/cruelties are how they get their cheese etc..?..
that they are only one degree of separation from this..?..(if that?..)
that they are enablers/supporters of this cruel exploitation of animals just as much as the carnivores they (often) sneer at..?
(and as an aside – have they never heard the crying/keening from both the cows and their offspring at/after that separation..(it’ll break yr heart – should you hear/experience that..eh..?..i have not forgotten/can never forget that..)
so really – no need for self-congratulation/back-patting on their part..eh..?
these are all the undeniable realities of their vegetarian lifestyles/diets..(and part of the raft of reasons why they should/need to make that final divorce from all animal bye-products – and to go vegan..)
and i haven’t even gone near the carcinogenic-outcomes from dairy/animal-bye-products – similar to those from eating flesh/meat – there is a mountain of scientific evidence supporting that..(this they are also in denial about..?..)
and as for those carnivores that self-congratulate/preen by saying:.’i only eat free-range!’..(!)..
..they are just fucken idiots..eh..?..)
“Doesn’t a vegan diet make you unhealthy and weak?”
No – I am very healthy – thank you very much.
I ran a marathon a few months ago.
Vegans typically have lower cholesterol levels – lower blood pressure – lower body mass indexes – a lower risk of death from heart disease and lower overall cancer rates than meat eaters.
The Mayo Clinic in the US recently reported that a plant-based diet could add four years to your life.
In fact leading athletes including weightlifters – sprinters – ultra-marathon runners and boxers are vegan.
Venus and Serena Williams adopted a plant-based diet in 2012.
Since then Serena has won the US Open three times.
Scott Jurek – widely regarded as the greatest ultra-runner of all time – eats vegan.
The only US male weightlifter to qualify for last summer’s Olympic Games – Kendrick Farris is – guess what – a vegan.
